After an AMA on Instagram yesterday, it became clear that wallpaper has a serious hold on all of us. I got more questions about it than anything else…where to use it, what patterns I love, how to make it feel timeless instead of trendy. Consider this my unofficial guide to when, where, and how I use wallpaper: the rooms I turn to wallpaper for most, the styles I rely on again and again, and tips for making it work in your own home.
My favorite rooms to wallpaper
Not every space wants wallpaper. It works best in rooms that feel a little more tucked away and spaces with clear boundaries that want some added personality. These are the rooms I find myself recommending wallpaper for the most:
Powder Rooms: The classic choice. Small, contained, and full of potential. I also love that this is a space guests often use / see, and it feels like a little treat to have it be a special moment.
Dining Rooms: Dining rooms are one of my favorite spots for wallpaper, especially if the space leans more formal or is mostly used for hosting. Since dining rooms don’t usually have a lot of layered fabrics or differing furniture, wallpaper adds that extra hit of texture and interest. It also plays nicely with wainscoting or wall molding, which many dining rooms already have. It just feels like it belongs here!
